Features of disposable non-woven surgical drape

Disposable surgical drapes have long been used to prepare and maintain sterile fields in the operating room to minimize the risk of infection, complications, and disease transmission. The use of non-woven fabrics offers several advantages in preventing bacterial penetration, tear resistance, and guaranteeing sterile, water- and water-repellent products.
Contrary to what happens in real fabrics, where fibers are arranged orthogonally to each other, in nonwoven fabrics, they exhibit random patterns and are materials obtained by procedures other than weaving. In fact, it is composed of natural and synthetic fibers that are not woven, knitted, or stitched, but joined together by mechanical, chemical, or physical methods.
Non-woven is a non-toxic, hypoallergenic material that ensures breathability, abrasion resistance, and a lightness of disposable surgical drapes. In addition, it has flame-retardant properties and can be manufactured quickly and at low production costs. Ensuring sterility in the operating room is essential to minimize bacterial flora and prevent the entry of microorganisms (pathogenic and non-pathogenic).
